Audition Information

Auditions will take place September 4th and 5th in the TD South Common Room.

There's no need to stress about auditions–they simply allow Redhot to get to know your voice. So relax, get a good night's sleep, and stay hydrated. Remember, we're all excited to hear you sing!

Auditions are also a great opportunity for you to get to know the group personally. Feel free to arrive early–you can meet group members or flip through one of our scrapbooks. We would love to chat with you about Redhot, a cappella, or Yale in general.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect at the audition:

Warm-ups/Warm-downs

Listening exercises
Our pitch, Melinda, will play a series of pitches on the piano and you will be asked to repeat them back.

Blending
During your audition you will sing a portion of one of our arrangements, "Dream a Little Dream of Me". A quartet of Redhotties will guide you through the except. Pick and review the line you think best fits your voice.  You can find the sheet music here and you can find sound files to help you practice below:
Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, All Four Parts

Solo
At the end of your audition, you'll be asked to perform a solo of your choice. Don't feel pressured to sing something "impressive" or even to learn something new; just pick a song that suits your voice and makes you feel confident. Current members have auditioned with everything from Billy Joel to Frank Sinatra, but your performance is far more important than the song you choose. We would much rather see you confidently perform a simpler song than fret over a more difficult one. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact the Rush Managers.
